Synopsis
Adapted from the international bestselling novel by Hiro Arikawa. A cat isn’t just a pet – it’s family. Satoru (Sôta Fukushi – from BLEACH, LAUGHING UNDER THE CLOUDS and LAPLACE’S WITCH) has known this since childhood when he had a kitten Hachi who was always by his side through good times and bad. As an adult, Satoru then adopted a stray he named Nana (the voice of Mitsuki Takahata – from DESTINY: THE TALE OF KAMAKURA) after the poor cat was hit by a car but miraculously survived.
However, Satoru must now unfortunately give his beloved cat Nana away. So, he travels to meet various important people in his life who may be able to take in Nana; his childhood best friend, a couple he knew in high school, and his favourite aunt.

Based on the international bestselling novel by Hiro Arikawa, The Travelling Cat Chronicles tells a tale from the perspective of a black and white kitty named Nana. Nana started off as a nameless stray but due to an accident and a miracle, he found himself a cat-slave and became Satoru’s pet. However, due to circumstances, Satoru has to unwillingly give his beloved cat away.

The Good
The movie is a non-linear narrative that takes on a retrospective view as Satoru travels and visits his old friends in hopes of getting them to adopt Nana. The people whom he met collectively tells the story of his past — during elementary school and high school.

Cuteness aside, The Travelling Cat Chronicles will also bring tears to your eyes. Not once, not twice, but thrice or more. The story is embedded with tear-jerking scenes, particularly on the bond and love between Satoru and Nana.

— SPOILER ALERT (read at your own risk) —

We often see shows about pets dying, be it due to illness or accident. But in this movie, we get to see a different perspective. Like how we would feel sad when our beloved pets passed away, our pets also feel something if we die or leave before they do. That is, if they are personified or if they can voice out their thoughts. Nonetheless, it is still an interesting perspective.

— SPOILER ALERT (you are safe now) —

The (Not That) Bad
Other than popcorn and drinks, bring along a handkerchief or a packet of tissue paper. You will need it. Or your neighbours will.

And The Summary
