Description:
Mickey Mouse and Singapore have something in common: the idea of universality. Food, language, architecture, you name it - many facets of Singapore society have been moulded by a multitude of cultural influences, leaving us with a wonderful playground where anyone can find a safe haven of comfort and security. Mickey Mouse is a cultural icon that everyone worldwide will recognise - the values of happiness, love and joy - which everyone holds dear. Singapore captures the hearts of many by assimilating a piece of their culture, and so has Mickey by borrowing from cultures around the world and applying it to a canvas of positivity that is Mickey Mouse. My design’s intention is to apply this concept of universality on a local scale. Mickey’s design is drawn from our main four cultural influences: Chinese, Malay, Indian and Peranakan. While there are many other cultures that co-exist in Singapore , these are the four that have impacted my life the most.
