Singapore, 7 June 2013 – Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard, the flagship cinema of Cathay Cineplexes, today announces the completion of its three-month expansion programme with the launch of three brand new movie halls at Level 4. The expansion will boost the total capacity at Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard to 15 movie halls and 2,281 seats, cementing its position as the largest cinema in Singapore offering the widest variety of movie titles and showtimes.
New cinematic experiences at Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard
Of the three new halls, two will be Platinum Movie Suites, Cathay’s most luxurious cinematic destination. This will be Platinum Movie Suites’ second location in Singapore – two years after a successful introduction at The Cathay Cineplex. Demonstrating Singapore movie-goers’ increasing appetite for premium movie experiences, the Platinum Movie Suites at The Cathay Cineplex has seen continuous growth in demand since it opened in 2011, with a 30% year-on-year growth in average occupancy rates. The two Platinum Movie Suites at Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard will have seating capacities of 24 and 16 respectively.
The third new hall at Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard will be a first for Cathay Cineplexes – a commercial hall filled exclusively with couple seats. There will be 48 pairs of seats in the hall to allow couples to enjoy movies in utmost privacy and comfort. In addition, each of the 96 seats is fitted with a small side table to let viewers enjoy a hands-free movie experience.
Always at the forefront of cinematic technology, all 15 cinema halls at Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard boast the latest in sound and visual projection, including 4K Digital Projection System, 3D technology and High-Frame Rate (HFR) capabilities and Dolby Surround 7.1 sound system.

Platinum Movie Suites
Platinum Movie Suites is Cathay Cineplexes’ most luxurious cinematic destination. It is a class type that boasts premium facilities and services above and beyond what consumers can enjoy in the commercial halls. Besides being able to watch movies in the comfort of the finest premium leather seats that are fully reclinable and enjoy personalised butler service, patrons will also have access to the exclusive Platinum Movie Lounge, equipped with WI-FI network and iPads for complimentary usage. There is also a gourmet selection of food and drinks for patrons’ enjoyment prior to the movie screening.
The movie tickets for Platinum Movie Suites are charged on per seat basis. All prices are nett and the rates are as follow:

As part of Platinum Movie Suites’ launch at Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard, movie-goers who purchase tickets to the Platinum Movie Suites will be invited to join the Priority membership. Existing Priority card members will also get to enjoy a complimentary movie screening upon presentation of their Priority card and Welcome voucher at the box office.MasterCard is the Official Card for the launch of the Platinum Movie Suites at Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard and all World MasterCard cardmembers will be entitled to a $5 discount for each ticket booked at the new Platinum Movie Suites at Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard.

Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard’s Legacy
Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard is Cathay’s first multiplex location in Singapore, opening in 1997 with six halls and 1,400 seats. Before 1997, Cathay Cineplexes operated only stand-alone cinemas. Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard has remained the flagship cinema for Cathay and has grown from strength to strength over the last 16 years, introducing many first-to-Singapore initiatives, including attaining THX and ISO certifications in 1998 and 2000 respectively, and being the only cinema to have achieved the certifications to-date.
In 2003, Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard was the first to launch daily double midnight movies and install digital cinemas in Singapore. In 2004, the cineplex became the first to hold 24-hour screenings and have since organised numerous movie marathons over the years. All of the cutting-edge initiatives have contributed to Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard being one of the most popular hangout locations for students, youths and young PMEBs in Singapore.
Today, as part of the expansion programme, Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard will be introducing a new Theatre Management System (TMS) that will improve efficiency and productivity among the cineplex staff. With the centralised TMS system, Theatre Managers can now start the movie projection at any of the 15 halls with the touch of one button in the comfort of their own offices, removing the need for individual projectionists for the different halls. The TMS is expected to reduce manpower needs by up to 25%. The TMS will be rolled out with the three new halls at Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure Orchard and will eventually be introduced at all Cathay Cineplexes by the end of 2013.
More Cathay Cineplexes in the pipeline
Cathay Cineplexes will continue to strengthen its presence in Singapore with further expansion plans, including the opening of Cathay Cineplex Jem, located next to Jurong East MRT, in August 2013. With 10 halls and 1,800 seats, Cathay Cineplex Jem will be the largest multiplex in the west. By the end of 2013, Cathay Cineplexes will boast 60 screens across 7 locations island wide and is set to expand further into other multiplex locations in Singapore.
