Catch these Malaysian celebrities on Sensasi and Asian Food Channel this Hari Raya celebration! InCinemas got to speak with actress Lisa Surihani, Yana Samsudin, and celebrity chef Sherson Lian!

The Bachelor Chef

You might have catch him on the popular cooking show '5 Rencha 5 Rasa' where he teaches you some of the most delicious dishes you can whip up in the kitchen. Now, embark on a foodilicious journey with chef Sherson Lian in Great Dinners of the World!

When asked about his future plans, he cited opening his fine-dining restaurant where he will be serving up a 7-course cuisine where the chefs Johnny, together with Lian will be changing the menu every 2-3 weeks. Apart from that, expect a book published from the duo in the coming years.

“Our vision of our company is hope to do everything related to food, so first of course is the restaurant and next we’re going to move on to catering to parties and events. At the end of the day, I really hope to have our own production house to be producing our own cooking shows,” he continued.

Each chef has his own style of cooking and for Sherson, he likes to ‘throw’ his ingredients around in the kitchen into his dish. It is no wonder that one might think of fame celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and his style of cooking for Lian named Oliver as his cooking inspiration!

“When I was young, I always looked up to Jamie Oliver. When I was asked to auditioned for it (Great Dinners of the World), I guess that’s the one ‘style’ that I am familiar and it became a very laid back, relax kind of style.”

Great Dinners of the World airs every Monday at 9.00pm on AFC, Asian Food Channel (StarHub TV Channel 435)!

About Great Dinners of the World
Four rising stars of the Asian culinary scene find themselves transported to the foreign, but culturally and historically rich Europe. In addition to visiting the most picturesque chateaus, mouth-watering breweries and enchanting castles in France and Scotland, these four culinary maestros will be tossed out of their comfort zones and given the challenge of cooking up and delivering their signature Asian delights to their unsuspecting European guests of honour!

If Lian isn’t in the kitchen or out on filming projects, you’ll most probably spot him by the beach diving or perhaps playing outdoor sports such as badminton, squash and swimming. It isn’t surprising that Lian is selected as the ‘50 Most Eligible Bachelor 2013’ by CLEOMalaysia! He can definitely win those fluttering hearts through stomachs!

Wearing the Social-media Crown

When is comes to winning hearts, one cannot forget model-actress Lisa Surihani. A law graduate from Help University College and Aberystwyth University in UK, who won the coveted Best Actress Award at the 23rd Malaysian Film Festival in 2010.

In her upcoming show Istanbul Aku Datang, Lisa plays a sweet and naive blogger who travels to Instanbul in hopes of convincing her medical student boyfriend Azad (Tomok) to propose to her.

Istanbul Aku Datang airs on 8 August at 8pm on Sensasi (StarHub TV Channel 123)!

“I love Dian. I think she is very sweet, expressive but vulnerable at times.” In short, Lisa would describe Dian as ‘bubbly, vulnerable and animated’.

Off screen, Lisa is no stranger to the social media realm. Undoubtedly one of the ‘queens of social media’, she has more than 1.5 million Twitter (@LisaSurihani) followers and over 340 000 followers on Instagram! Occasionally interacting with fans via these online tools, Lisa also agreed that social media is a good platform for sharing information, but at the same time, an open space for negativity to sink in.

“For a time I puasa social media. I stopped updating it (Twitter & Instagram) for a while, not because I was getting slammed all the time, but it was just not my profile. In general, I noticed it was like a floodgate where people just started spewing out whatever they wanted to say. In anything, any issue possible. I kind of felt that it was an unhealthy breed and if it goes on any longer, it won’t be healthy,” she continued.

Lisa is all about staying positive. Living up to her mottos of ‘Always see the good in people’ and ‘Let the positive outweigh the bad’, she believes it all boils down to attitude, especially when dealing with negative comments.

“At the end of the day, it is about how you handle the situations. When you see the negativity that surrounds is starting to outweigh the good, then take control of the situation and try to make the positive outweigh the bad again.”

Fear-Factor Director

Actress-director Yana Shamsudin plays a happy-go-lucky character in upcoming drama ‘Wawa Semput’. She describes her character as a cheerful girl and bears similar traits to herself in real life, especially the good relationship with her father.

“Coincidentally, my character’s father in Wawa Semput makes Roti Canai (aka Roti Prata in Singapore) and so does my father in real life,” she chuckled.

About Wawa Semput
Bobby and Wawa’s love conflict in ‘Adnan Sempit’ has not yet seen its end. Their story continues in this comedy-action film that has Bobby and Wawa facing the biggest challenge in their relationship when Bobby accuses Wawa of being unfaithful to him with Ismat. Wawa, who is also fed up with Bobby’s hooligan act, decides to break up with him and return to her hometown. Even when Bobby comes to his senses and begs her to come back, Wawa is unmovable, and allows Ismat to whisk her back. Bobby, not to be outdone, also travels to her village, which results in various competitions of sorts between the two in order to win Wawa’s heart.

Catch Yana Samsudin in Wawa Semput on 10 August, 8pm on Sensasi (StarHub TV Channel 123)!

Yana is both versatile on-camera and off-camera as she had directed a few productions in the past. Though we might not be seeing her works anytime soon, you can definitely spot her in upcoming tele-movies and shows like ‘Adnan Sempit 3’, ‘Abang Long VS Kak Yong’ and even participating in Fear Factor Malaysia in October!

“I’m pretty excited and hopefully I can get into the finals!” In terms of preparation and training, Yana is determined to take up swimming lessons and increase her stamina by jogging after the Hari Raya celebrations.
