Sentosa Spooktacular 2013: Thai Horror Films come to life!

By InCinemas  /  23 Oct 2013 (Wednesday)

Come I pray for you. Whether you're celebrating Halloween or not, it's good to know that you've just been blessed by the religious leaders above (known for blessing F1 Race track). You are now ready to venture into the unknown and enter the realms that once exists only on the silver screen.

This year's Sentosa Spooktacular brings the classic Thai horror movie to life, re-enacting several scenes that once gave you the frights and chills. It's "exciting" to know that the 5 trails are designed based on Coming Soon, Shutter, Body, Dorm and the recent 2013 released movie Pee Mak.

'Kob Khun Krap' (Thank you) to the team behind Sentosa Spooktacular, InCinemas was invited to the media preview last Friday to find out what the spook is all about. As for myself, I'm glad to be back here again, secretly searching for that one mesmerising girl from last year.. But nope, no luck as I tried 3 of the 5 trails and hiked all over Fort Siloso, checking out the wandering ghosts along with the many adventure seekers.

A hanged Chaba flinging in mid-air. Do you dare to save her?

There isn't a hard and fuss rule as to which trail to visit first and but soon, you'll learn that the shortest queue is generally the rule of the thumb and "Fast Pass" (S$26.60) would really come in handy as midnight falls.. It's also worth a note that the organisers have extended the end time till past midnight, 12:30am (previously 11:00pm)!

So, I find myself wandering the eerie footway of Fort Siloso, filled with scattering dead leaves and ghosts. The Thai offerings along the way adds scepticism to the atmosphere in the dimly-lit path. You kind of feel the need to behave yourself and stay respectful to the things you see around there in case you offend the real ghosts out there. You get the meaning.

I visited the 3 trailers in the following order, Shutter, Coming Soon and Body, so Shutter sets the standard. And I must say that there are a lot of attention and efforts paid to create the details and bring relevance to the trail.

Of course, if you've watched the movie you'll better appreciate the beauty of the photographs and flashes in the trail. In fact there's one part where you just find yourself greeted by the ghostly girlfriend in the photo studio just like the movie scene! And the ghost(s) gets nearer with each flash!

Take more photos la! See what happens to you!

In addition, there were plenty of photos and photo frames on the wall in the dimly lit trail that will catch your attention - which isn't good because there's more to meet your eyes!

Shutter trail plays around with your sight to create unexpected scares and induce fear in the dark narrow path. It's really worth a go if and only if the trail is less crowded. After all, you wouldn't want to catch up with the group in front nor follow by the group behind, creating a long chain o. I suspect that many stopped to take photos (Note: Flash photography not allowed) or that they were simply too scared to move on.

Next up, the Coming Soon trail! This year's Sentosa Spooktacular packs movie trailers so you have an idea of what to expect before entering each trail. And the footage might cause discomfort. And Coming Soon has a compulsory one which will really take you by surprise.

Like Shutter, the trail is dark and the fear factor is increased by many folds with all the Chabas (real or fake) lurking around the area! And yes, they will come to you with eye balls for sure!

A starter before entering Fort Siloso.

Last but not least, Body is probably the longest yet disappointing trail. Only allowing about 6 people per wave, we were briefed about a mission to find Dararai's body if not we couldn't leave the tunnel. Yet it's more of a walk through in the stuffy and over-crowded tunnel with no signs of the mission that we've been expecting.

Not entirely bad, there is one memorable scene in the trail on the scene where the  doctor cut up the body. And interestingly, the scare actor puts up an act, ushering us out of the room. "Move out, you're holding up the queue!" said the surgeon with a butcher knife. Who dares to disobey him?

Upon my way out, I thought I would try for Dorm Trail which is set in the Fort Siloso tunnels. But unfortunately, the queue is too overwhelming. This should be pretty good since last year's experience with the tunnel is quite daunting.

You know, I can't help to notice that there are less scare actors this time round compared to last year's Spooktacular.. Must be the advertisement for real ghost that makes the huge difference!

Well, maybe there are more this weekend. Note that the session on 26 October is already sold out. Visit Sentosa Spooktcular Official website for more ticketing details!
