By InCinemas / 16 Apr 2014 (Wednesday)
Local singer-songwriter Olivia Ong was appointed as the ambassador and mentor for a nationwide singing contest, The Right Note, organised by Strepsils, in celebration of World Voice Day 2014.
“I’m just really happy to be here to lend my time and basically my role here is to create more awareness on vocal and throat care”, said the songbird at the press conference held at Hood Bar and Cafe yesterday.
The Right Note singing competition is in search for the best voices where the top five finalists will perform a duet with Ong, and the winner will walk away with $5000 cash and an opportunity to record an original single composed by award-winning producer Lee Wei Song. The Right Note is in celebration of World Voice Day, a worldwide annual event devoted to celebration of the voice.

When it came taking care of your voice, Ong cited ‘warm honey lemon water’. She said: “It’s very important to hydrate yourself, I usually drink warm honey lemon water… at anytime of the day, especially when you don’t have enough sleep.”
Interested participants are invited to submit a video of themselves performing an English or Mandarin song, and submissions must be at least 1 minute long. Valid entries will be screened on the competition’s microsite where judging and public voting will determine the 5 finalists. The final 5 will then compete for a chance to win the final crowning glory.
“Singing is really about expressing yourself. It’s like storytelling,” quipped the singer, before belting out a high-pitched note.
‘Prepare well, find out who your inspirations are, and have fun’ are three tips Ong gives to all aspiring singers out there who are interested in joining the competition. “
“The microphone amplifies your voice. Your voice represents who you are, how you want people to understand you, the things you say and how you want to make connection with other people, so don’t be afraid to show your voice”, ambassador Ong continued.
The Right Note competition submissions will open till 16 May 2014
