If you think Hong Kong actor Julian Cheung is like the flirtatious ‘Captain Cool' in hit television series and now movie, Triumph In The Skies, you may be a tad disappointed as he nothing like his on-screen character.

'In real life, I'm not good at picking up girls. I don't have the chance to speak like 'Captain Cool', so I pour out everything into the movie," said Cheung at the press conference yesterday held at the ArtScience Museum.

He was in Singapore with co-star Charmaine Sheh to promote the movie that will open in cinemas this Chinese New Year, 19 February.

“Captain Cool's character and his way of life cannot be followed because he is such a flirt, and with so many ladies around him! If there's a guy like him in real life, I think he will die a horrible death," he quipped, adding that he doesn't speak like his character does to his wife, Anita Yuen.

"We've been together for so long, so much so that I can tell her feelings just by the way she walks.”

Though he admits to being a pragmatic husband, Cheung stills buy little gifts for her during special occasions like Valentine's Day and birthdays.

“8th of February is our anniversary. Together with some good friends, we went out on a romantic dinner. To me being together is also a very romantic thing.

For Valentine’s Day, she bought a couple of things and called me to pay with my credit card, so I said, ‘Okay, I'm coming!’ That's quite romantic too, right?”

When asked to choose a character they would like to play in the movie, Cheung chooses Kenneth Ma’s role for he hopes to act alongside Elena Kong. "Elena is a very charming woman and a very good actress; I have not collaborated with her in the past and would love to have the chance to."

For Charmaine Sheh, a new collaboration with an actor is also the reason why she hopes to play Sammi Cheng's character, TM. "I have worked with Chilam (Julian Cheung) and Louis Koo, but have not had the chance to work with Francis Ng." The 39-year-old actress said.

Sheh plays an air stewardess in the movie, a dream career she had when she was younger.

"It was my dream to become an air stewardess. I even passed the test, but didn't expect myself to be able to fulfill this dream years later in Triumph In The Skies."

In the movie, she develops a relationship with Louis Koo; the first time the two establish actors are working together. "We've collaborated 15 years ago for a TV series, but in the 50-episode series, we’ve only worked for one episode. There wasn't much interaction between the both of us."

She adds: ”Contrary to his ‘cool’ looks, he’s actually a very friendly person. In England, he arranged for us to dine in various famous restaurants after our shoot.”

“Though filming can be quite arduous at times, but we've become fatter after this,” Sheh jokes.
