Korean Actor Joo Won Never Thought He'll be Starring in Another Medical Drama, but Said 'Yes' to 'The Gang Doctor'

Korean actor Joo Won, together with up‐and‐coming singer‐actress, Park Hye Su, were in town last weekend to promote their medical drama ‘The Gang Doctor’.

Playing the skilled surgeon Kim Tae-Hyun, Joo Won admitted that he never thought he would be starring in another medical-related drama after the highly-rated ‘Good Doctor’ where he plays an autistic kid but a very skilled in medicine. 

“I had so much difficulty in memorising all the medical jargons for ‘Good Doctor’, so much so that I swore to myself that I won’t be doing another medical drama… And here I am, back to being a doctor again,” he chuckled at the press conference last Saturday afternoon, before he left with his co-star for a meet-and-greet at Suntec City.

“There were a lot of differences in both dramas, to which it helped me steered away for the fact that I was doing another medical drama. I see it as a different challenge for me.”

He listed the action sequences he had to do for ‘The Gang Doctor’ were tough and difficult to execute. As the rough and thick-skinned fighter in the drama, there were a couple of action scenes where he found it challenging. “In the beginning, I had quite a lot of action scenes like chasing a car; jumping off the bridge; and filming in the water. If I had to pick one, there was a scene that I had to drive very furiously and because the cameras were mounted on the windshield and around the car, my view was entirely blocked…. I was literally driving into a wall! Those were very dangerous and challenging times but I am glad it turned out well. 

For Park, her scenes were much easier compared to her on-screen brother, but thanked Joo Won for his motivation and support during their filming of their scenes. 

“Both on and off set, Joo won and his character Tae-Hyun, have been a great support to the character and myself, and there were a lot of good advice that Joo Won offered me. I am very grateful to be a part of this drama and for all the support he had given me.”
