Filmmaker Boo Junfeng’s 'Apprentice', a film about Singapore’s death penalty has been chosen as Singapore’s entry to the 89th Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film category!

The film will compete with countries all over the world for a chance to be nominated for the 89th Academy Awards, which will take place in February 2017.

Earlier this year, the film made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, and was selected as an Official Selection of the Un Certain Regard. After a successful 8-week run in Singapore, ‘Apprentice’ then toured around the world at various film festivals such as the Toronto International Film Festival, (TIFF), Melbourne International Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival. The film is set to make its Asian festival premiere at the upcoming Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in October.
