The reveal was made at the recent New York Comic Con over the weekend. Film visionary director Luc Besson’s sci-fi blockbuster ‘Valerian And The City of A Thousand Planets’ released new stills from the movie, and a spanking new poster featuring the two leads played by Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne.
The film is based on classic French sci-fi graphic novel series “Valerian and Laureline” created by artist Jean-Claude Mézières and writer Pierre Christin. The film is born out of director Luc Besson’s (“The Fifth Element”, “Lucy”) passion for the “Valerian and Laureline” series, which he has loved since young. At the recent San Diego Comic-Con in July, Besson received a standing ovation from audiences after presenting first-look footage from his upcoming film.

With a budget of US$208 million, the movie is the most expensive non-US movie in cinematic history, and approximately 70% of its budget dedicated to special effects. The production has teamed up with several of the best VFX companies including Weta Digital (“Avatar”, “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies), Industrial Light & Magic (“Star Wars”) and Rodeo FX, the Canadian company responsible for the visual effects on the TV series “Game of Thrones”. Principal photography commenced in Paris at the studios of La Cité du Cinéma in January this year and wrapped in June. Also starring in the film are Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, Rutger Hauer and Kris Wu.
[About Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets]
Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner — blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him. Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time — uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.
