Celine Dion Sings New Original Song For 'Beauty and the Beast' Soundtrack

By Freddy  /  20 Jan 2017 (Friday)

Celine Dion’s name has been appearing a lot recently due to netizen’s outrage that the titular song in the live-action adaptation of Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ will be sung by Ariana Grande and John Legend in the credits and soundtrack. Many immediately started comparing Ariana Grande and Celine Dion. Indeed, it is difficult to match the version sung by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson for the 1991 animated original. That song won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, three Grammy awards, and a place in our hearts.

It should delight netizens that Celine Dion will perform a new original song, ‘How Does A Moment Last Forever’, written by Alan Menken and Tim Rice. The emotional ballad is about holding onto life’s precious moments. Portions of the song are performed throughout the film and interpolated into the underscore before Dion’s full-length version debuts in the film’s custom main-on-end title design.

She is glad to be a part of this soundtrack. “Being a part of the original ‘Beauty and the Beast’ was such a magical experience in my life, and I'm truly honored to be a part of this film again,” said Dion.

Dion was approached to perform this song by Mitchell Leib, President of Music for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Production. “Celine was the unanimous choice of the filmmakers and studio to perform this song,” says Leib, “And everyone involved with the film is thrilled she agreed to be part of this new live-action adaptation.”

We are most certainly as thrilled as they are. We cannot wait to listen to the soundtrack, which will be released by Walt Disney Records on 10 March 2017.

‘Beauty and the Beast’ opens in theatres 16 March 2017.
