First picture of Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” features Ansel Elgort & Rachel Zegler

The movie stars Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver) as Tony and newcomer Rachel Zegler as Maria in the remake of the Oscar-winning 1961 movie musical, adapted from the famous Broadway musical.
Steven Spielberg who has directed big-budget blockbusters like Jurassic Park and Minority Report is directing this upcoming feature, said to be his passion project that he’s been working on for years.
The first photo features the two lead characters holding hands, surrounded by their feuding friends and families between the Jets and the Sharks. Tony, a one-time member of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the Sharks leader, Bernardo, played in the remake by David Alvarez.
Spielberg is once again collaborating with Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Tony Kushner, along with Tony Award-winning choreographer Justin Peck.
