For the first time in Singapore, Pixar Animation Studios kicked off a series of three drawing workshops over the past weekend, teaching kids and families how to re-create their favourite characters from
Disney and Pixar’sToy Story 4.
The workshops were conducted by Mara MacMahon, a Pixar artist who worked as the character designer and rigger on Bo Peep for the film. As a character modeler and rigging artist, MacMahon translates the art department’s designs into a 3D model and adds controls for the animation department, much like one would sculpt and add strings to a puppet so it can act.
All tickets to the exclusive workshops were quickly snagged by parents and their children, which were only available on the opening weekend of the festival. In each session, MacMahon shared step-by-step know-how on sketching Woody, Forky, Bo Peep and Buzz Lightyear, among other characters. Some lucky fans even got their drawings autographed by the Pixar artist.
In celebration of the event and the film release, MacMahon created an exclusive Disney and Pixar’s
Toy Story 4 artwork that features Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Forky and Bo Peep at Gardens by the Bay.
Besides sharing her skills in drawing, MacMahon also parted her experience working on Disney and Pixar’s
Toy Story 4 over a dialogue session with local tertiary students. Fielding questions on her scope of work and her journey in becoming a Pixar artist.
This year’s Children Festival by Gardens by the Bay is open from now until 30 June 2019. Guests can enjoy the first ever Disney and Pixar’s
Toy Story 4 themed marble run track in Singapore, a special Disney and Pixar’s
Toy Story 4 inspired-edition of the Garden Rhapsody, a thrice-nightly light and music show by Gardens by the Bay, as well as complimentary carnival activities.
Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 4 opens in cinemas on 20 June 2019.
