A New Star Wars Film In The Making
By Chen Shun / 08 May 2020 (Friday)
When you thought that May the 4th is over and Star Wars Day is officially over, Disney announced a piece of great news worth celebrating! A few days back, Disney announced that Taika Waititi ('Thor: Ragnarok', 'Jojo Rabbit') has officially signed on to direct a live-action Star Wars movie, which is set for a release in theatres.
The director will also co-write the brand new Star Wars movie, and he will be joined by Krysty Wilson-Cairns for the screenplay portion. Wilson-Cairns might not be a big name but she has just been nominated for an Oscar for her co-writing work in the movie '1917'. She also co-wrote Edgar Wright's upcoming film 'Last Night in Soho'.

This is not Waititi's first time touching base with Star Wars. Last year, Waititi directed the critically-acclaimed season finale of Star Wars: The Mandalorian. He proved that his directing style and comedic timing translates well to the popular franchise.
At this point, Waititi's Star Wars movie doesn't have a set release date, and it likely won't for some time when you consider all of the production shutdowns. However, Waititi probably has to finish directing Thor: Love and Thunder before entering production on his Star Wars film.
