Disney Channels are No Longer Available on Local TV Networks

By Rachelle  /  03 Jun 2020 (Wednesday)

It was recently announced that Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, and Go Disney have been removed from both Singtel and Starhub.

The news first broke when Disney made an official announcement via the Disney Junior Asia Facebook page.

As shocking it may be to suddenly lose these channels without warning, it should come to no surprise as it was recently announced that Disney+ is set to make its debut in Japan on June 11. The looming threat of the streaming network service is likely causing concern on how big of the TV market share in Singapore will be taken up by Disney+ should it release here.

Singtel and StarHub had this to share with regards to the matter:

We regret to share that we were unable to reach an agreement with Disney on a reasonable renewal offer for its channels. We continue to engage Disney in discussions.

We strive to do our best for customers and secure quality content at the right value, to avert any unsustainable cost increases to our customers. We regret that despite our best efforts to negotiate for a reasonable deal, we are not able to reach an agreement to continue the broadcast of Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD. We share our customers' disappointment. We are committed to delivering the best variety of content to customers and channel cessations are always the very last resort.

While we all wait for news of Disney+'s availability in Singapore, both Singtel and Starhub customers can still get their quality children and animated programmes fix via channels such as Animax, BabyTV, CBeebies, Cartoon Network, DreamWorks, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. among others.
