The Dear Evan Hansen movie has nabbed more star power! Amy Adams joined the cast of the Universal Pictures’ film to  portray Cynthia Murphy, mother of the characters Connor and Zoe Murphy.

Adams who is no stranger to movie musicals (remember when she was a singing princess in Enchanted?) joins Ben Platt, who won a Tony for playing Hansen on Broadway, along with Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Nik Dodani, and Colton Ryan. Stenberg was most recently reported to play Alana Beck, one of the titular character's classmates.

Dear Evan Hansen
is a Tony-winning musical that opened on Broadway in 2016. The story follows a high schooler with social anxiety who gets caught up in a lie after Connor Murphy’s family mistakes one of Hansen’s letters for their son’s suicide note. Universal acquired the feature film rights in late 2018. Stephen Chbosky (Wonder) will direct from a script by Steven Levenson, who wrote the book for the stage musical. Marc Platt (La La Land) and Adam Siegel will produce for their Universal-based Marc Platt Productions.

Adams will next be seen in the upcoming drama film Hillbilly Elegy and The Woman in the Window. She has Oscar nominations for her portrayal in Junebug, Doubt, The Fighter, The Master, American Hustle and Vice.
