Anna Faris exits 'Mom' ahead of its new season

Anna Faris, one half of the dysfunctional daughter/mother duo Christy and Bonnie Plunkett in the CBS sitcom Mom, has officially announced her departure from the show.

She released a statement confirming the news:

The past seven years on 'Mom' have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career. I'm so thankful to [creator] Chuck [Lorre], the writers, and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience. While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I’ll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family.

On the show, Faris played Christy Plunkett, a single mom who struggles with alcoholism. Her mother, Bonnie, is played by Allison Janney. Together, the pair made a formidable comedy duo on screen, with Janney picking up two consecutive Emmy Awards for best supporting actress for her role.

Faris' exit will leave Janney as the sole lead in the sitcom's upcoming eighth season. Her absence will be addressed in the upcoming season, which is slated to start production September 14 in Los Angeles.

Mom is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros Television. It was created by Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky and Gemma Baker
