Barry Levinson - of Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) and Rain Man (1988) - is set to direct Francis and The Godfather, a drama about the legendary and wild battles that went into making the 1972 classic The Godfather.
Oscar Isaac and Jake Gyllenhaal have been confirmed as the leads, playing Francis Ford Coppola and Robert Evans respectively. Coppola is the Oscar-winning filmmaker of the critically-acclaimed movie while Evans is the former head of Paramount Pictures.
Francis and The Godfather is said to follow in the footsteps of David Fincher’s upcoming Netflix drama Mank, which tells the behind-the-scenes story of the making of Citizen Kane.
Coppola shared his enthusiasm for the new project in a brief statement to Deadline. He said:
Out of the madness of production, and against all odds, a classic film happened. Any movie that Barry Levinson makes about anything, will be interesting and worthwhile!
