It is reported in TVBS (clip below) that the box office of You Are The Apple Of My Eye 《那些年，我們一起追的女孩。》 has already surpassed renown director Lee Ang's Lust
Caution box office in Hong Kong and fans from mainland China have
chartered plane to Hong Kong and Macau just to watch the movie!

And based on Twentieth Century Fox Film HK Facebook Note, You Are The Apple Of My Eye has set a whole new record in becoming the best selling movie in a mere 18 days, surpassing Sex & Zen 3D!

In addition, You Are The Apple Of My Eye ranks number 4 in Hong Kong's Box Office 2011 and judging from its current stance, the possibility of setting another new record is not unthinkable.
Incredible isn't it? It wasn't all easy for writer-turned-director Giddens. According to the notes of You Are The Apple Of My Eye, Giddens recalled the times when his novel (same title as the movie) sold poorly in the first year. "But I still called my publisher. I
told him he should take the story to the big screen and the movie
version would be a fantasic one. He always told me not to think too
much. And I always thought my novel would knock the door of Hollywood. I
don’t think it is important how people think about you. All you need is
the approval of yourself!"
YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE is rated NC16 (Coarse Language and Sexual
References) and opens InCinemas 10 November 2011. The movie is in

THE PROMISE
Before Giddens made the movie, Jimmy Lai, the founder of Next Media asked if Giddens would like to be the host in a Monday to Thursday news talk show. Giddens didn't accept the job and they went on to talk about the movie Gidden is intending to make. Below is an interesting conversation both parties had.
Jimmy: "Giddens, you don't need to make a film just like everybody else who makes some money. They all lose money on that."
Giddens: "I won’t lose my money, because my film will be so good and huge."
Jimmy: "You can’t aim at the moon. Have you ever been a log keeper? Have you ever been an assistant director? You can not just be the director with no experience. You could lose all your money on that!"
Giddens: "I won’t lose my money!"
Jimmy: "I’m telling you that if you want to make a movie, ok, there are two ways. One is to gain some experience from the basic job, and the other is to be the host. You can interview with lots of people and people would know you from the show, and then you could make your film successfully."
Jimmy asked Giddens how much Giddens think the film would gross in the box office. Giddens's reply apparently gave him a shock.
Jimmy: "20 million NT dollars? It is impossible!"
Giddens: "If my film grosses over 20 million NT dollars, you must let me have a half-page ad in your newspaper FOR FREE, with the headline 'Congratulations to Giddens whose film have grossed over 20 million NT dollars!'"
Jimmy: "A half-page ad? I will give you a full-page ad!"
Giddens then told him that he would remember his promise. So if you would just sit through the credits of such a wonderful movie (which you really should), you will notice that Giddens has added some words after the credit, "To Jimmy Lai, who promised if my film grossed over $20 million NT dollars, he would give me a full-page ad for free. I am looking forward to it!"
At that time in point, Giddens wasn't thinking about the size of the advertisement but the point of the 'fun' factor in the promise.
