Netflix is bagging big names for the confirmed 'Knives Out' sequel!

By Rachelle  /  14 May 2021 (Friday)

Back in March, news broke that Rian Johnson's acclaimed mystery film Knives Out will be getting two sequels at Netflix!

The original Knives Out film grossed US$311 million worldwide and was a not-so-surprising hit, with its clever script and all-star ensemble cast. In the film, detective Benoit Blanc uncovers the truth surrounding the death of the wealthy Thrombey family's patriarch, in a plot full of twists, turns, controversies, and surprises. The original cast features an Oscar winner, Christopher Plummer, and three Oscar nominees, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, and LaKeith Stanfield. Also in the cast are Daniel Craig, Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell, and Riki Lindhome.

Director Johnson is set to write, direct, and produce the sequel along with Ram Bergman. It’s unclear if other stars from the original ensemble will be returning but Daniel Craig who played detective Benoit Blanc is confirmed to reprise his role.

Plot details are unknown at this time other than Craig's Benoit Blanc returning to solve another mystery revolving a large cast of suspects. Production is set to start this June in Greece.

Meet the actors who joined the cast for the sequel below:

Dave Bautista

The project reunites Bautista and Craig, who previously appeared together in the 2015 James Bond film Spectre. Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is also teaming with Netflix on Zack Snyder’s zombie thriller Army of the Dead. His other upcoming film roles include Denis Villeneuve’s Dune remake, Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Janelle Monáe

An eight-time Grammy nominee, Monáe burst onto the Hollywood scene with breakthrough performances in 2016’s Hidden Figures and the Best Picture Oscar winner Moonlight. Since then, the multi-hyphenate entertainer has starred in film and television projects including Harriet opposite Best Actress nominee Cynthia Erivo, Welcome to Marwen, The Glorias, the lead role in the second season of Amazon’s Homecoming and last year’s thriller, Antebellum.

Edward Norton

Norton’s attachment is a good sign of how impressive Johnson’s script is as the Oscar-nominated actor has gotten rather particular with roles he commits to. Some of his recent projects include Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel and Birdman, which earned him his most recent Oscar nomination for supporting actor.

Kathryn Hahn

Hahn has been busy diving over the past year showcasing her range starting her critically acclaimed role in the HBO limited series I Know This Much Is True opposite Mark Ruffalo. She followed that up with the Disney Plus Marvel series WandaVision, playing Agatha Harkness, a role when unveiled threw social media into a frenzy.

It is still unknown who these actors will be playing in the film. Stay tuned for more updates!
