Val Kilmer, the actor best known for starring in films such as The Doors, Batman Forever, Top Gun and many more 80s classics, has died.

Kilmer's daughter, Mercedes, confirmed to the New York Times that the actor had passed away after battling pneumonia. He had been diagnosed with throat cancer back in 2014, rendering him unable to speak and having him disappear from Hollywood for years. He was 65.

The actor made his debut in the spoof comedy Top Secret! in 1984, that set off his reign in Hollywood in the eighties from starring in films such as Real Genius (1985), Top Gun (1986), Willow (1988) and more. One of Kilmer's most acclaimed performances was playing rockstar Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors (1991) as well as tentpole roles like Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman Forever (1995).

Despite being diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 that rendered speaking incredibly difficult, Kilmer reprised his role as Iceman in Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, his last screen role.
