Acclaimed director Joko Anwar to attend Singapore Premiere of his latest film, 'Ghost in the Cell'

Acclaimed Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar will be in Singapore on 23 April for the Singapore Premiere of his latest horror-comedy, Ghost in the Cell!
Following its World Premiere at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in February, Ghost in the Cell quickly gained international attention, with distribution rights secured across 86 territories worldwide. The film will begin its theatrical run in Indonesia on 16 April 2026.
Written and directed by Joko Anwar, Ghost in the Cell follows an inmate who arrives at a brutal Indonesian prison accompanied by a mysterious entity that kills those with the darkest aura. As fear spreads, prisoners are driven to perform good deeds to survive, only to realise that unity may be their only hope against the deadly force.
Renowned for blending genre filmmaking with sharp social commentary, Joko Anwar has built an international reputation as a versatile storyteller across comedy, thriller, horror, and action. Prior to becoming a filmmaker, he worked as a journalist and media critic. He first gained critical and commercial success with his 2005 directorial debut, Joni's Promise. His sixth feature and first horror attempt, Satan's Slaves, became the highest-grossing Indonesian film of 2017. Its sequel in 2022, Satan's Slaves 2: Communion, currently ranks as the third highest-grossing Indonesian film of all time. In 2024, he also created a Netflix series Joko Anwar's Nightmares and Daydreams, which entered the U.S. Top 10.

Audience and fans in Singapore will have a rare opportunity to meet Joko Anwar in person at the Ghost in the Cell Singapore Premiere, and be among the first to watch the film! An exclusive post-screening Q&A session will follow, where the writer-director will share insights to scriptwriting and filmmaking processes and engage directly with the audience.
Limited premiere tickets will be available for sale via Golden Village sales channels on 10 April from 3:00 PM (SGT) onwards.
