Come this May, an exciting new breed of horror will hit local theatres islandwide. GHOST ON AIR is a new ghost story concept that was spawned from the synergy between local film director Cheng Ding An (Kallang Roar: The Movie) and the talented and versatile local radio celebrity Dennis Chew (周崇庆), also endearingly known as his alter-ego 'Aunty Lucy'.

Exploring an unprecedented soundscape and cinematography for local horror, GHOST ON AIR promises to whet the appetite of the ever hungry local horror fans.

Set in the modern day, the film tells the story of a top radio DJ who has fallen from grace and discovers a shortcut back to fame by telling ghost stories. But as he continues, he realizes with horror that his newfound fans may have come from another realm.

The film’s central philosophy comes from a famous Confucious’ saying: “One should learn to acknowledge and respect the Gods and Spirits and keep your rightful distance.”

GHOST ON AIR has placed its central emphasis on the fact that sometimes, in the pursuit of true horror, sensationalizing tales of the unknown may bring us to the jaws of a very real danger.

Leading the star-studded cast of GHOST ON AIR is 933 FM DJ Dennis Chew. While widely known for his comedic roles, Dennis has proven his caliber to terrify the audience with his tremendously popular 'Grandpa Chew’s Ghost Stories' radio program. The program was very much acclaimed and the sales figures for its merchandise went through the roof.

This film gives Dennis an opportunity to reprise a much darker and grittier role than the light hearted and comedic ones he usually portrays.

“After watching GHOST ON AIR, I think the audience will be pleasantly surprised by how Dennis elegantly, and with such ease, portrayed a heavy and solid role like this”, said director Cheng Ding An. “His performance will definitely speak better for himself.”

The film also features Gan Meiyan, one of the leading presenter on Malaysia’s most popular radio station, MyFM. Meiyan, who is known for her versatility after portraying in many different comedic roles, shows off more of her acting chops in GHOST ON AIR, portraying as the deceased girlfriend of Dennis Chew’s character.

And to the director’s joy, she too, delivered a splendid performance playing this somber role. This will no doubt give her huge fan base back home something more to cheer about!

GHOST ON AIR opens InCinemas 17 May 2012. Rating to be advised.
