Get to know the people in The Croods before it opens in cinemas 21 March 2013!
The Croods tells the story of the world’s first modern family. It takes place during a previously undiscovered epoch known as the Croodacious Era – a time when Mother Nature was still heavy into experimentation, resulting in a planet filled with extraordinarily bizarre flora and fauna. It is into this comedically dangerous world that the Crood family must venture in search of a new home after their cave is destroyed.
As if survival of the fittest isn’t challenging enough, patriarch Grug (Cage) soon encounters someone who is a good deal fitter – an imaginative young nomad named Guy (Reynolds), who is smitten with Grug’s teenage daughter Eep (Stone). Ultimately, the Croods manage to evolve, conquering their fear of the outside world and discovering that they have exactly what it takes to survive – each other.

We shall let the characters introduce themselves...
Meet Eep! (Voiced by Emma Stone)
My name is Eep 19 summers old. I like to run, jump, and chase mammoths. Any chance I get, I like to lie in the sun. I guess because my family and I live in a cave. We’re the last cave in Crood Canyon... actually, we’re the only cave in Crood Canyon. I don’t get out much, probably because there’s a lot of stuff outside that wants to eat us. All that time inside doesn’t really interfere with my dating life because there aren’t any boys to date. The last dateable one was eaten a few years ago. I can’t complain though, because complaining hasn’t been invented yet.
Say Hi to Guy... (Voiced by Ryan Reynolds)
Hi, I'm Guy. You might say I like to travel. In fact, I've been walking alone since I was a little kid. The alone time gives me lots of time to think. Like wondering where the rain comes from and where do the suns go to sleep at night. Besides hanging out with my best friend, my pet sloth, Belt, I like coming up with ideas and inventing things. I also like hanging out with the Croods, except for the times when Eep's Dad tries to kill me.
Don’t forget the cutest thing... Belt! (Voiced by Chris Sanders)
Hi! This is Guy, actually. Belt can't speak English. But I can speak Beltish. So I will be translating for him. Belt wants you to know that he's the world's first pet. He says that in addition to holding my pants up, he likes long walks on the beach and watching sunsets. He has a far superior intellect to humans and can't wait for the day until Sloths run the world.
The man of the family, Grug. (Voiced by Nicholas Cage)
Being the father of a caveman family isn’t easy. First of all, pretty much everything outside our cave wants to eat us. If I could keep my family inside all the time I would, but we have to go out once in a while for food and water. Once we find it, it’s right back inside. On the positive side, we spend a lot of time together. On the downside, it’s pretty dark in here so we really don’t see each other very much. But when it comes to my mother-in-law, it’s okay with me.
Right, cheer for the hip mummy, Ugga. (Voiced by Catherine Keener)
Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Living in the Croodaceous isn’t exactly a party, but there are really some nice things about it. Staying in a dark cave is really good for your skin, and we never have to worry about the neighbors being too loud since they were carried away by a dust storm a few summers ago. I do miss sharing mosquito burger recipes with the Throgs; they were nice cave people. But you never know, they might get blown back this way someday.
Greet Granny Gran! (Voiced by Cloris Leachman)
My name is Gran. What's it to you? I lived through the ice age. What did you do? Okay, I'm a little cranky, but you'd be cranky too if you were my age. Forty-six is as old as dirt in the Croodaceous. I've seen it all: man-eating plants, bone-crushing Macawnivores, you name it, but the thing that worries me the most is my son-in-law Grug. He'd be worthless if it weren't for me keeping him in line.
How about some love for the youngest and cutest Crood member, Sandy! (Voiced by Randy Thom)
Hi, my name is Sandy. I technically can’t talk yet, but I do have one mean growl. I’m the youngest member of the Croods, but don’t let my cuteness fool you. My bark is just as bad as my bite!
And... Thunk too! (Voiced by Clark Duke)
My name’s Thunk! I’m six feet tall, 280 pounds and nine years old. As the second man of the cave, I use my expert hunter-gatherer skills to help my family survive, although I sometimes tend to break an egg or two…. My dad is the greatest person alive and like him, I have promised to never do anything new or different.
Is this pet Douglas man’s best friend too?
Meet Thunk’s pet Douglas! An unexpected blend of canine and crocodile, his menacing looks and razor sharp teeth mask a friendly demeanor.
