The female-driven R-rated comedy plays up the crazy antics when a group of ladies reunites 10 years after graduation for a bachelorette party in Miami.

First of all, let’s talk about the star-studded cast, led by Scarlett Johansson who plays an aspiring politician, and the wife-to-be of the penis-filled party. SNL star Kate McKinnon plays the effervescent Australian BFF, while Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer and Zoë Kravitz co-stars as part of the female quintet. Let’s not forget the swingers neighbours played by Demi Moore and Ty Burrell who ‘invites’ Kravitz in their menage-a-trois.

Alice (Bell) organises a reunion in the name of a bachelorette party for her best friend Jess (Johansson). Unbeknown to her, Jess invited Pippa, her good friend that Alice sees as a threat to their friendship. The ladies head to a bar where it started out innocently with just alcohol shots, but when cocaine comes into the picture, things start to get crazy when they hired a male stripper that didn’t turn out who they thought he was. The bulk of the film showed how the ladies scrambled to dispose of the body, but of course, all things failed and they are at wit's end on how to deal with a corpse.

Female-centric comedies are starting to sprout up on the big screens, such as Bridesmaids, Bad Moms, The Heat, etc. It isn’t easy to do a commercially-successful mainstream comedy, perhaps with the R-rating, it gives a better direction of how far these ladies are able to stretch the comedic elements with improv and storytelling-wise. With Rough Night, the skit setups start to get a little blotchy in the middle, but it is to the effort of these actresses that execute the one-liners flawlessly.

To put it bluntly, Rough Night is mainly about the senseless humour and R-rated jokes by these ladies about sisterhood, men, sex, and friendship rivalry. While some of its gags are hits and some, misses, Rough Night ultimately delivers a hilarious and entertaining night-out with your friends and buddies. With a series of twists and reveals, don’t miss the after-credits for the final plot twist!
