Boasting a cast chockfull of comedians (Cleese! Whitehall! Hale! Thompson! Rodriguez! Peters! Sanz!), Clifford the Big Red Dog is the lighthearted adventure comedy film that arrived just in time for the holidays!
That’s not to say the film is not short of emotional, heartwarming moments that will bring tears to viewers both young and old. We don’t know about you but any film with a dog in it is 1000% bound to make us cry.
Led by the young and talented Darby Camp, Clifford tells the story of how the little red pup turned into a giant ten-foot dog after he meets 12-year-old Emily Elizabeth (Camp). What follows is a chaotic adventure that sees the Big Red Dog finding his place in the Big Apple.
British comedian Jack Whitehall gets typecast to play a familiar role of being the clumsy, unreliable character in the film – Emily Elizabeth’s uncle Casey who is in charge of taking care of her while her mother/his sister is away. What does set his performance in this film apart from his other works is that he gets to dabble with an American accent. Another worthy mention is legendary British comic John Cleese who despite having lesser screentime, has an on-screen presence that makes a lasting impression with his character Mr. Bridwell.
It may be jarring that Clifford is a CGI dog that defies logic but that won’t stop viewers from falling in love him.
