Academy Award-winner Jared Leto gets a second chance with superhero movies in Sony Pictures’ latest superhero film, Morbius.

In the third film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) comes a new Marvel legend. It follows the story of Dr. Michael Morbius (Leto) – who suffers from a rare blood disease – as he tries a dangerous cure that afflicts him with a form of vampirism. What transpires is a tale of inner conflict, self-control, and a reminder that the SSU still exists and is going strong.

Albeit a bit dark at times, the tone of the film plays into the characteristics of the new Marvel legend. In what may be his least challenging role to date, Leto – who has a reputation for being a living vampire himself for his never-aging looks – plays Morbius with ease, making a compelling lead that carries the film from start to end. Doctor Who’s Matt Smith, unfortunately, doesn’t get enough screen time to be lauded as a worthy adversary but he does shine every time he's on screen.

Morbius may not be close to achieving what Spider-Man: No Way Home did for the studio but it’s still a solid introductory film for the character, surpassing even 2018’s Venom

It’s a good addition to the SSU and with its ways of teasing its universe's future, we’re excited to see what else they've got in store! Stay for both end credit scenes and you'll get what we mean.
