Synopsis
Lela Manja, produced in 1960 is a famous tear-jerker melodrama film.
It tells a story of two siblings, Lela and Manja who are being abused by their stepmother. They are tortured to do daily errands without any pity whenever their father, Sang Naka is not present.
Their suffering became more unbearable when Sang Naka had to leave for a month to serve the King. During this time, their stepmother, Dang Suri started a secret relationship with Megat Sura.
While searching for firewood one day, the siblings accidentally saw Dang Suri fooling around with Megat Sura in a river. When the affair was discovered by Sang Naka upon his return, he was killed.
The incident was witnessed by Lela and Manja who fled to save their own lives. As they reached the river, Manja managed to climb into a “sampan”. Unfortunately, Lela slipped, leaving Manja all alone in the “sampan” drifting out into the river.
Will they be able to see each other again and re-unite?
