Decorated veteran Will Sharp (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), desperate for money to cover his wife's medical bills, asks for help from his adoptive brother Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal). A charismatic career criminal, Danny instead offers him a score: the biggest bank heist in Los Angeles history: $32 million. With his wife's survival on the line, Will can't say no. But when their getaway goes wrong, the brothers hijack an ambulance with a wounded cop and an ace EMT (Eiza González) onboard. In a high-speed pursuit that never stops, Will and Danny must evade a massive, city-wide law enforcement response while executing the most insane escape L.A. has ever seen.

An exhilarating car chase that might leave you nauseated by the end.

Michael Bay has outdone himself with his filmmaking choice of style-over-substance with his latest directorial film, Ambulance.

Set in the city of Los Angeles, the film follows two adoptive siblings turned bank robbers (Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) who steal an ambulance occupied by a paramedic (Eiza Gonzalez) and a police officer in critical condition.

The film spends its first quarter setting up its premise like an F1 driver preparing his car for a race. Once the foot hits the pedal, it’s all non-stop until the very end. While Ambulance is a thrilling action film at its core, Bay and co. make questionable choices with their over-the-top cinematography that almost takes away the fun of enjoying a simple car chase.

Thankfully, the core cast delivers solid performances. Gyllenhaal’s manic character adds to Bay’s spectacle, taking the film up a few notches, while his co-stars Abdul-Mateen II and Gonzalez ground it with their centered and commanding approach.

If this was made into an amusement ride a la Transformers: The Ride 3D at USS, you might just hurl. But that's really because the editing choices and shots will make you feel like you're watching the film in 360° mode. Thrill-seekers might still love it though.
