Positivity and humility can take you a long way, even more so with unfaltering determination. Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris delivers this message in a charmingly packaged film led by a strong performance from Academy Award-nominee Lesley Manville.

The film set in 1957 London, follows Mrs. Ada Harris (Manville), a widowed cleaning lady who becomes obsessed with one client's haute couture Dior dress; inspiring her to buy her own. After suddenly receiving a war-widow's pension, she travels to Paris to do so. In her journey of achieving her dreams, Mrs. Harris braves the challenges of roadblocks with the people she meets along the way.

If you’ve had the pleasure of having seen Phantom Thread–another brilliant film featuring gorgeous costumes and a magnificent Manville–you’ll notice and appreciate the range the talented actress has. Channeling her inner Paddington to bring to life the endearing Mrs. Harris, you can’t help but feel the need to root for her every success and happiness in the film, making it an engaging watch from start to finish.

It helps that the look and feel of the film is eloquently framed and designed in a manner that luminates the film up but the true champion apart from Manville’s performance is award-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (Mad Max: Fury Road, Cruella), whose contribution to the delightful wardrobe will make anyone envious and yearning for the beautiful dresses themselves.

Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris is a grounded film that’ll make your heart smile. Run to cinemas to catch it on the big screen now if you’re looking for a feel-good time!
