Synopsis
In Marvel Studios "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

An epic bittersweet sci-fi adventure not to be missed.

The stakes haves never been higher for the Guardians (if you discount the trappings of Infinity War and Endgame). It’s not news that Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the end for this line-up of heroes we’ve come to know and love so it’s only understandable to anticipate loss of a key character. The film pans it out so well that it could literally be anyone, tugging at heartstrings and keeping viewers on their toes at all times.

As the closing chapter to what is arguably one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s best trilogy, this film delivers on all fronts with heartfelt laughter, thrilling action, gripping drama and melancholy. If you’re a crier, there will be plenty a moment for both happy and sad tears.

Writer-director James Gunn is nothing if not consistent with injecting his brand of humour and action in his films. It’s exceptionally balanced here with the heaviness of Volume 3. His potential has always been apparent since the release of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014 but this final instalment is a true testament to his 10-year commitment to the Guardians trilogy.

The whole cast also committed 110%. The character arcs and growths of each Guardian makes the film all the more bittersweet and satisfying.

The strong focus on existing characters – especially Rocket whose past is greatly explored here – almost overshadows the newer characters, most notably Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary and Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock. Thankfully, both actors add enough flair to bring their characters to life.

The High Evolutionary may not everyone’s favourite MCU bad guy but his villainy is strong and Iwuji’s performance is easily commendable. He’s not afraid to kill millions if it means to perfect his clouded vision. His cruelty knows no bounds and its only made more apparent when Nebula points out that his actions are much worse than what she suffered in the hands of Thanos.

Poulter’s casting as Adam Warlock makes all the sense when you finally see him in action. The actor may have gotten the "Marvel Makeover" but the essence of his character here is familiar grounds for anyone who’s seen his body of work. We don’t get enough of him here which makes it exciting to look forward to more MCU projects with him in the future.

Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a stark reminder why fans and moviegoers alike get excited over superhero films. You may never truly be ready for this last ride so strap in tight.
