You are stitching together a parachute as we fall from the sky” is a direct quote from the film and the best indication of the wacky, chaotic ride Fight or Flight takes you on. Directed by James Madigan and written by Brooks McLaren and D. J. Cotrona, this balls-to-the-wall action comedy stars Josh Harnett, Charithra Chandran, Marko Zaror, and Katee Sackhoff.

Fight or Flight sees disgraced former secret service agent Lucas Reyes (Harnett) recruited to identify and protect a wanted criminal aboard a commercial airline. Hard enough as it is to spot an unidentified target, Lucas is in company of a plane full of hired assassins with the same target.

The wanted criminal, “Ghost”, turns out to be an elusive hacker with motives to use her skills to help free child laborers, having experienced it herself firsthand. Lucas successfully identifies airline stewardess Isha (Chandran) as Ghost and both are forced to work together in fighting off the assassins. What follows is a non-stop action-packed machine that’s as funny as it is bloody.

The film is unafraid to hold back on its intense action that culminates in gory deaths, leaving their leading man fighting for his life in a confined space with barely any place to hide. Harnett seems to be having the time of his life playing the unhinged and washed out Lucas, a performance most elevated after a bout of being “poisoned” by toad venom he mistakenly took for adrenaline. Matching up to the intensity is Chandran (best known for starring in season 2 of Bridgerton), who holds her own by not leaning into playing a damsel in distress.

The plot of the film does closely resemble the Brad Pitt-starring Bullet Train (2022) but stakes are higher here considering they’re literally up high in the sky with nowhere to go until they land. The comparison doesn’t hurt its chances at being its own film on the market.

Now what’s most interesting about Fight or Flight is how the filmmakers decided to leave the film open-ended with a possibility of turning this into a franchise (Fight or Flight 2: Electric Boogaloo coming to cinemas in 2027 probably.) Jokes aside, there is promising potential, so here’s hoping they can come up with something of substance.
