Synopsis
Sal "The Bull" was once, a rising star destined for greatness. Now, nearing 40, he's worn down—just another face in the quiet, dead-end town of Still, scraping by as a part-time care worker. Life has reduced him to a shadow of who he once was, living in the wake of opportunities squandered and choices unmade.

When Sal decides to finally step up and be a father to his estranged teenage daughter, Molly—a sharp, rebellious girl he hardly knows—he’s confronted with the reality of their fractured relationship and the growing fear that she’s heading down the same troubled path he once walked. His bond with her is fragile at best, but it becomes the one thing anchoring him to the hope of a better life.

Everything shifts when Vince, a ghost from his past, returns. Vince offers Sal a way out of the monotony, pulling him into a world of crime and dangerous promises. For the first time in years, Sal feels a flicker of the fight he once had. But it comes with a cost. As Sal gets deeper, he finds himself battling for his soul on two fronts—trying to rebuild something with Molly while being dragged further into the violent, chaotic world Vince inhabits. The closer he gets to escape, the more everything slips away. In the end, the walls start closing in, and Sal has to decide whether redemption is worth the price.

Salvable is a gritty, emotionally charged story about a man trapped by his past, fighting for a future that may already be lost. At its heart, it's a raw exploration of fatherhood, failure, and the desperate search for second chances.

An eye-opening take on one’s struggles in desperate times and the severe consequences that follow.

How often would we choose to do the right thing when temptations get in the way? The answer may be simple but the hard truth of the matter lies within one’s willpower and discipline. Writer-directors Björn Franklin and Johnny Marchetta’s film debut, Salvable, puts their protagonist in the tough position – delivering a tense crime drama that will leave you pondering as the credits roll.

Salvable depicts former competitive boxer Sal in his struggles to escape his troubled past while mending a fractured relationship with his teenage daughter Molly. The film stars Toby Kebbell, Shia LaBeouf, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Michael Socha and James Cosmo.

Sal (Kebbell) is no longer the prized fighter he used to be. He lives a mundane life that’s begging for a change of scenery. The opportunity comes at the reemergence of his friend Vince (LaBeouf), recently released from a jail sentence. In desperate need of money for his relocation, Sal succumbs to Vince’s tempting offer in a life of crime.

It’s tough to resonate with Sal’s eventual choices, especially laid out against the higher road that has people rooting for him to be the better man. Were it not for Vince, Sal was destined for progress. It’s unfortunate his weak will won the battle this time.

What’s most interesting about Sal is how multifaceted and full-fledged Franklin & Marchetta have shaped him to be. He’s a sweet and caring man at work but a tough and brutal fighter in the ring. Despite his differences, he is a noble man at heart with a strong conscience – knowing better than to lay the final blow that could kill a man – but a concsience challenged all the same when presented a high risk, high reward scenario to fix his problems.

Ultimately, the outcome of Sal’s life lies within his hands alone and despite our disagreements, we’re able to find it in our hearts to see his redeemable qualities and sympathise with his choices. This is in part thanks to Kebbell’s honest and tortured performance as the boxer past his prime. He plays the character in such a lived-in manner, deftly balancing tenderness and grit, it’s hard to imagine otherwise. The same could be said for his co-star LaBeouf in a scene-stealing turn as the convict Vince. Together, they make this otherwise cold drama an enticing watch.

Salvable is an eye-opening take on the harsh realities of one’s struggles in desperate times and the severe consequences that follow. Not all films deserve a happy ending even if we so wished for this one to, but that's life for you.
