Bride Hard is about Sam (Rebel Wilson), a secret agent who can’t seem to switch off her military instincts, even when it comes to celebrating her childhood friend’s upcoming wedding. When she’s forced to take a break by her boss, Sam will have to face the hardest challenge of her life yet – being a regular maid of honor.
But when a group of mercenaries crash the most important day of her best friend’s life, it’s up to Sam to take care of unfinished business.
As an action-comedy flick that prefers to spotlight female friendships over the men in their life, it’s decent. Bride Hard is the type of brainless, raunchy comedy that knows exactly what it is, and who it’s meant for.
If anything, there were moments where it could have leaned harder into the absurdism and comedy, especially when the fight choreography seems content with being sluggish and average.
Bride Hard is the kind of movie you turn on late at night after flicking through too many shows to decide what’s good enough, and just need something breezy and serviceable to wash over you, with a sprinkle of unexpectedly funny and unhinged performances by Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
Deeply unserious, formulaic, but fun – that’s Bride Hard for you.
