At the same time, a young man from Hong Kong who is somehow related to Van Pao-Te’s past comes to Taiwan. Two unknown journeys of self-reconciliation begin… 60岁的范保德病了，本该好好休息，却只想带着儿子前往日本打探父亲的消息。父亲50年前离家赴日，寻求发展机会，至今不曾联系。父亲的缺席，是范保德这辈子最大的痛苦根源，他极力想摆脱父亲的影响，也希望不留给儿子同样的痛苦，如今自觉余日无多，“父亲”与“儿子”，是范保德心中的两大挂念——他想知道父亲50年来的去向与故事，同时也担心善良的儿子未来会因深情而受伤。此时，一位年轻人Newman从香港来到小镇，一段意外且伤感的旅程正等待着他。 在剧情与角色关系的描写中刻意大量留白，导演萧雅全仅透过影像语言暗藏线索，而解开的不只是范保德的人生秘密，还有一则讲述冷战时期台湾国际政治关系的寓言。
