Synopsis
In a world conspiring to keep two people apart, can love actually triumph? Larry (Kieran Coppinger) and Sophie (Charlene Kelly) are in love and keen to book into a hotel for some alone time. Trouble is, both parties have intellectual disabilities and, unless they are married, they are likely to be in breach of the law. Their sympathetic care worker Tom (Robert Doherty) comes to their rescue only to have a comedy of errors unfold as his other charges run amok. Director Len Collin’s debut features a real-life cast of intellectually disabled actors. Sanctuary has been hailed for its considerable humour while treating tough issues with compassion and understanding.
