Synopsis
A filmmaker journeys back to Santiago de Okola, his father’s Andean village in Bolivia that he only visited once as a child. With his camera, director Miguel Hilari seeks to find his place in a distant land where only his uncle remains. In the process, he documents the everyday life in the village. It is a rural place displaced from modernity, a community of farmers consisting of the aging and the young, where children recite poems of Quechua and Aymara independence and history. The Corral and the Wind is threaded with a sense of authenticity that stems from the desire to reconstruct one’s identity lost through time and distance. As a place where a camera is a curious object, Hilari captures scenes of life that are intimate yet riddled with a sense of disconnect. The Corral and the Wind will be screened with Revolution, Primavera and Forward. Total duration is 87 minutes.
