Synopsis
The globe-spanning conflict between otherworldly monsters of mass destruction and the human-piloted super-machines built to vanquish them was only a prelude to the all-out assault on humanity in Pacific Rim: Uprising.
John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity's victory against the monstrous “Kaiju”. Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father's legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.
Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert (The Fate of the Furious’ Scott Eastwood) and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara (newcomer Cailee Spaeny), as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Netflix's Daredevil, STARZ's Spartacus) and also stars Jing Tian, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona and Charlie Day.

Although not as superb as its previous movie,
Pacific Rim: Uprising
is still your go-to movie if you require your fix of action flick.

Pacific Rim: Uprising
, sequel to the 2013 movie
Pacific Rim
, explores the story 10 years after the Breach is sealed. But little did they know that the Kaiju have been planning and preparing for a return to end this world once and for all.
The Good
The sequel sees the return of some of the cast from the first movie, such as Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Mori, Charlie Day as Dr. Newt Geiszler and Burn Gorman as Dr. Hermann Gottlieb. It would be great if Mako has a better role to play but it is good enough the two quirky and witty Kaiju experts are retained in this film.
Pacific Rim: Uprising
also introduced refreshingly new cast with John Boyega playing the humorous Jake Pentecost, son of the hero General Stacker Pentecost; Scott Eastwood as Jake’s rival pilot Nate Lambert; and Cailee Spaeny as the talented Jaeger hacker Amara Namani.
The action scenes are definitely something to look forward to. Gipsy Avenger, a Mark-6 Jaeger named after Gipsy Danger, is the star of the sequel. She is also joined with a few other Jaegers like the super fast Saber Athena and Bracer Phoenix which requires three pilots. In particular, the Bracer Phoenix is one hell of a badass, which made good use of the additional pilot.
The Bad
The plot can be incoherent at times and lacks originality, such as getting lost in a memory of a Kaiju attack during drifting, similar to its first movie; and the fact that looking at the Kaiju rampaging through the streets of Japan makes one cannot help but think of Godzilla. The time difference of a decade also did not see any significant improvement in the technology. If anything, the Jeagers only become bigger and more agile but not necessarily stronger, at least relative to the Kaiju. The possibly only redeeming factor is its plot twist, albeit not entirely unexpected.
Even though
Pacific Rim
ended with black marketeer Hannibal cutting his way out of the Kaiju infant, apparently escaping the fate of death,
Pacific Rim: Uprising
did not seem to bother to include him in the movie. But perhaps, Hannibal will get to play a part in the next instalment.
And The Summary
Although not as superb as its previous movie,
Pacific Rim: Uprising
is still your go-to movie if you require your fix of action flick.
