Synopsis
On the twentieth anniversary of Reid Anderson’s appointment as director of the Stuttgart Ballet SWR television has produced a ninety-minute documentary. The documentary film portrays the Stuttgart Ballet from its beginnings under the legendary choreographer John Cranko right up to the present.

Author Harold Woetzel accompanied the ballet company for a whole year. “I was fascinated most of all by the dancers,” says the SWR-filmmaker Woetzel about the filming.

“They are all so exceptional, and at the same time they are such wonderful people. They are absolute top ‘sporting artists’ and yet so friendly, positively humble and amazingly warm-hearted – super heroes working for art! And they all work as a team.

The family atmosphere that has always been invoked at the Stuttgart Ballet – both under Cranko as well as today – really does exist. You sense that John Cranko’s spirit still lives on in this ballet company."

This screening is kindly supported by Goethe-Institut Singapore.
