Synopsis

Audrey (Mila Kunis) and Morgan (Kate McKinnon), two thirty-year-old best friends in Los Angeles, are thrust unexpectedly into an international conspiracy when Audrey’s ex-boyfriend shows up at their apartment with a team of deadly assassins on his trail. Surprising even themselves, the duo jump into action, on the run throughout Europe from assassins and a suspicious-but-charming British agent, as they hatch a plan to save the world.

This action-packed spy comedy stars Mila Kunis (Audrey) and Kate McKinnon (Morgan) as best friends who find themselves in the midst of an international conspiracy when Audrey’s boyfriend, Drew (Justin Theroux) shows up at her door unexpectedly. Drew is assassinated, throwing Audrey and Morgan into a huge mess. Right before Drew dies, he tells Audrey not to trust anyone.

            The duo flee Los Angeles when they find themselves targeted by both unnamed assassins and the CIA. They escape to Europe thinking they would be safe. Yet, unknown to them, it is only the beginning of their spy mission. They find themselves embroiled in an epic car chase across the streets of Europe; they also hilariously attempt to take on new identities as they are now internationally wanted criminals.

            Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon deliver a stunningly hilarious performance in the film. They transform from city girls to professional spies when forced into situations that end up in them hijacking a car, taking up guns and attacking their killers. Things escalate quickly in the film. The storyline is well developed, as it inserts flashbacks to Drew and Audrey’s past, providing us with a comprehensive backstory. Throughout all their adventures, Audrey and Morgan show us that your best friend is the only person you can trust in times of crisis. There are many surprises in the film as the plot is unpredictable. The rest of the cast deliver as well, including Sam Heughan (Sebastian) who stars as a CIA agent who also doubles up as a guardian angel for the duo.

            The film is packed with a lot of action and unconventional sequences. Audrey and Morgan are well-rounded characters the audience would be able to relate to. The film exposes their insecurities, including showing us at their most vulnerable when they are tortured hostages, leading Morgan to hilariously blurt out secrets about Audrey when their lives are at stake. The film’s message is clear: in times of adversity, as long as we are determined, together with our friends, we can accomplish great things together. That includes being a kickass semi-professional spy.
