Synopsis
Based on the bestselling comic book, Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation. With an army of nanotechnology in his veins, he’s an unstoppable force –stronger than ever and able to heal instantly. But in controlling his body, the company has sway over his mind and memories, too. Now, Ray doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not – but he’s on a mission to find out.

From David Wilson in his feature directorial debut comes
Bloodshot
, Valiant Comics’ first entry in the ever growing mass of superhero movies.
Bloodshot
stars Vin Diesel in the titular role with a supporting cast that include Guy Pearce in an antagonistic role not to be confused with his Aldrich Killian in
Iron Man 3
,
Outlander
’s very Scottish Sam Heughan who fakes his way through with a bad American accent, Eiza Gonzalez in yet another token female role and Alex Hernandez. Diesel may be the star of the show but the true heroes are its comedic relief, coders played by Siddarth Dhananjay and a fake British Lamorne Morris. Maybe it’s time the underdogs got more credit instead?
Ray Garrison (Vin Diesel) is an assassinated former soldier who is brought back to life when scientists from an organization called Rising Spirit Technologies led by Dr Emil Hartin (Guy Pearce) experiment on him using nanotechnology. The nanotech (or nanites if you will) allows Ray to punch his way through anything, giving him super strength and self-healing powers. The one big downside to his resurrection is the amnesia, safe for one memory of his wife’s murder. Banking on his only memory, Ray goes all out to avenge his wife with his newfound superhero abilities, discovering more about Dr Hartin’s experiment along the way.
Spoiler alert: Watch the trailer and you’ve seen the movie.
Bloodshot
is riddled with questionable slow-mo effects on some fight scenes that may have had the intentions of adding cool factor but ended up making the film feel longer than it actually is. It’s definitely not fast but at least it was a little furious? Diesel's signature stone-cold acting paired with Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer's lacklustre screenplay does not make it any easier to save let alone enjoy. If this is meant to set up a Valiant Comics Cinematic Universe then there’s a lot of work to be done before they could ever dream of reaching the heights the MCU managed to achieve.
Fans of Vin Diesel who’re probably used to him playing the same character in every other movie he’s in (except Groot of course) would appreciate this. You may also enjoy it if the superhero franchise fatigue hasn’t gotten to you yet.
