Synopsis
Welcome to the Jam! NBA champion and global icon LeBron James goes on an epic adventure alongside timeless Tune Bugs Bunny with the animated/live-action event “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” from director Malcolm D. Lee and an innovative filmmaking team including Ryan Coogler and Maverick Carter. This transformational journey is a manic mashup of two worlds that reveals just how far some parents will go to connect with their kids. When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitized champions on the court: a powered-up roster of professional basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before. It’s Tunes versus Goons in the highest-stakes challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself. The ready-for-action Tunes destroy convention, supercharge their unique talents and surprise even “King” James by playing the game their own way.

25 years later, the studio that brought you Space Jam returns with Space Jam: A New Legacy – with new star power, the current reigning king of basketball, LeBron James! If you loved the first film, you may very well find yourself delighted all over again.

Directed by Malcolm D. Lee and backed by an innovative filmmaking team including Ryan Coogler and Maverick Carter, Space Jam: A New Legacy was a walk down memory lane though it is ultimately a reboot, not a sequel.

Our all-time favourite LooneyTunes characters were brought to life in 3D, looking a whole lot more realistic thanks to advancements in technology and animation. You'll be sure to get all excited again and feel a special kind of joy to see the Tunes gang back on the big screen. LeBron – playing a fictional version of himself – though mostly animated, fit right in with the Tune Squad.

Furthermore, the relationship between father and son is a heartwarming addition to film, I might have shed a little tear. When LeBron and his son Dom (Cedric Joe) got sucked into a digital world, the father-son duo were set up to challenge each other in a video game version of basketball held by Don Cheadle's villainous character, Al-G Rhythm. All LeBron wanted was for his children to be a successful basketball player like him. The realisation when he finally understands his son’s dreams to make video games about basketball instead was the sweetest thing a parent could do for a child.

I won't spoil a surprise guest appearance or a funny "Casablanca" joke but I will say this: the more you know the Looney Tunes characters, the more you'll appreciate how they bring their special skills to the game.

Side note: The soundtrack in this film got me grooving in the cinema! Thank god it was dark. Also, you should definitely watch this film.
