Scott Cawthon’s cursed creations are back on the big screen with a killer sequel that proves the Five Nights at Freddy’s cinematic presence is only just beginning. Watch out, Scream.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 sees the return of stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard, with new cast members Skeet Ulrich, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, and Teo Briones. Also returning is director Emma Tammi.

Continuing a year in from the events of the previous film, this sequel follows Abby Schmidt (Rubio) as she reconnects with her animatronic friends, leading to events that reveal the origins of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.

Fans familiar with the storyline from the popular video game may recognise some new characters and plot points introduced here but fret not if you have no knowledge of the lore, because the film works for both fans and non. Our only gripe is the stunt casting, while the new faces add star power, they lack screentime to give anything substantial (apart from Grace).

There is perfect incorporation of point-of-view shots here, the very element that is exactly what the games are about when it comes to instilling fear. It’s applied just the right amount of times without losing its charm, making for a fun and exhilarating watch. If the original gang of animatronics never truly scared you before, you may want to strap in for this sequel’s big bad that’s more terrifying in every sense.

Some of the best parts of Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023) were the character and production designs. The sequel ups its game with delivering more characters and sets here but wary of retaining its quality, it doesn’t disappoint.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 may not be a strong sequel when compared to its predecessor but it’s a decent contribution to the franchise’s stake in film.
