What could possibly make the Grand Prix more exciting than it already is? Upgrade it with death-defying obstacles, of course!

Sounds exciting but not at all plausible for real-life execution so we’ve got the next best thing – the animated sports comedy film, Grand Prix of Europe!

Created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the German theme park Europa-Park and its star mascots Ed Euromaus and Edda Euromausi, the film features the voices of Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Gemma Arterton, Hayley Atwell, Lenny Henry and more.

Grand Prix of Europe follows young female mouse, Edda, who works at her family amusement park and has a knack for racing. She dreams of racing in the Grand Prix of Europe someday and is a big fan of racing legend Ed, a male mouse who has won the Grand Prix four times.

When Edda inadvertently causes harm to Ed that prevents him from driving, they conspire to have Edda pose as Ed to avoid disqualification. Edda not only gets to fulfill her dream of racing in the Grand Prix but also potentially earn enough from the winnings to pay off the park loans her father owes.

Unfortunately for Edda, it’s not all a dream when she discovers someone is sabotaging the races. Will she stop them in time so her chances of winning aren’t hindered?

Grand Prix of Europe at its best is a vibrant and exhilirating fun for its target audience. The voice talents were exceptionally sprightly – safe for one that was intentionally dark but great all the same – adding to the fun and whimsy feel of the animation.

The character designs weren’t anything to shout about, especially not if you’ve seen your fair share of animated anthropomorphic animals because we swear we’ve seen those wolves in Zootopia! But perhaps it’s the power of positivity and friendship that’s the most important take-away here.

Whether you’re familiar with Europa-Park and its mascots or not, Grand Prix of Europe is worthy of your time at the cinemas. Dreams can come true!
