Synopsis
Deemed as one of the Top 10 Chinese-Language Films of 1980, THE FELLOW WHO REJECTED COLLEGE is adapted from a bestselling novel, which was once praised by renowned writer Sanmao as "Taiwan’s ‘The Catcher in the Rye’." The film tells the story of a group of high-achieving senior high school students striving for academic excellence amidst intense competition as they prepare for the university entrance examination. The college entrance examinations are viewed as the be all and end all for Taiwanese high school students. A top student sends shock waves through his family and friends when he decides not to take them.
The film now returns exclusively to GV’s screens in its digitally restored form. Singapore Film Society Chairman Kenneth Tan loves this film so much that he has watched it a total of 45 times on the big screen.
