Shane Filan, best known as the vocalist in Irish boy-band Westlife was in Singapore for his ‘You and Me’ album promotions. He performed to a 800-strong crowd at Zouk last Sunday, the biggest showcased he had done so far.
When asked about his feelings touring solo in Singapore, “It’s new, it’s fresh for me. Obviously every day is different. You’re on your own so you get used to that fact very quickly. But so far I’m loving all,” said Filan, at the press conference yesterday at Park Royal at Pickering hotel.
His debut solo album, entitled ‘You and Me’ not only made the charts in Ireland and UK, it was the most downloaded album on local music portal, Singtel Amped. This album also marks his first time as a songwriter where he had a part in writing all 13 tracks in the album. Filan admitted that he himself was unsure about it at first, but gathered inspirations from his wife, children and journey throughout his life.
“Writing songs was a very new thing for me. I was up for the challenge but was very nervous about it,” he added.
Going for a more positive vibe in his tunes, Filan shared that he wants bring out a message of ‘be happy in life’. “Everybody in life worries about stuff, whether it’s the kids, money or someone that is sick in the family, everybody has a problem. The best thing is to talk about it, be open and not to be afraid to tell.”
“I have a lot more control over it (album)... to find the Shane Filan sound.”
Married to childhood sweetheart, Gillian in 2003, Filan still blushes and was in all smiles when he talked about his wife and their three children.
“We have a very honest and trustworthy relationship and I think that is the most important thing. We talk about everything, we tell each other everything... and I cannot keep a secret from her.”
“I don’t know what is the secret formula but I love her unconditionally, I love her a thousand percent... She’s an incredible woman.”
Word of advice from this lady-killer? “To keep it alive, you got to make an effort, even if it’s getting her a bunch of flowers for no reason.”
Ladies, if you aren’t already falling in love with Shane Filan, I don’t know what would.
