In Giddens Ko's sequel to the hit Taiwanese film ‘The Apple Of My Eye’, Cafe. Waiting. Love is a romantic-comedy starring Megan Lai, Vivian Chow, Vivian Sung and Bruce. The film had great opening box office sales in Taiwan in its first opening weekend, and is expected to see a surge in the coming weeks.
Known for her silkily long hair and feminine character, actress Megan Lai chops her hair off, for the role of 'Abusi', a lesbian barrister at the cafe in the movie. Apparently, it was an intentional move from the producers to have a ladylike actress to take on the role as 'Abusi'.

“When we were looking for an actress to portray Abusi, we didn’t want to find actresses who already have short hair. We wanted to have a 'surprise element' to it. Megan’s identity as Abusi was the last to be announced,” said director Chiang Chin Lin at the press conference held at A.T.O.S Asian Tapas last Sunday.
With this new and fresh haircut, many people had a shock when her character’s image was released to the public earlier this year, a big transformation even the director couldn’t recognise her at first.
“We were this close (they were seated side by side) to each other and exchanged eye-contact, but director Chiang actually asked around for my whereabouts,” Lai quipped.
After the transformation, she has often been compared to some of the hottest Korean male stars, such as Lee Min Ho and even My Love From The Star actor Kim Soo Hyun.
“I believe this is an honour for a girl to be compared to such handsome male stars. This also means that the character 'Abusi' has succeeded. My worry then wasn’t how short the hair would be, but rather how charismatic and handsome it would look on me.”
This is the first time Lai has cut her hair so short, even her mother couldn’t accept it.
“I told my parents I would be cutting my hair for a role but they didn’t expect it to be this short. My mother stared at me for a good 10 seconds without saying a word. She was very shocked! Even at the dinner table, she kept staring at my new look, repeating ‘I really cannot accept it’, nearly a thousand times!”
Newcomer Bruce is not only a hottie, his dimpled smile makes him a cutie among fans and cast members. Vivian Sung, who plays his love interest in the film, said his dimples ‘adds extra points’, and we couldn’t agree more.
A self-confessed gym rat, Bruce had to cut down on his exercise regime for his role as 'A-Tuo'. “I was too bulky then…so I stopped doing weights and went on a diet for 2 -3 months prior to filming.
Ladies, you will get to see his toned abs in the movie, but perhaps not an ideal setting of how you’ll imagine it to be; he wears a bikini skating around with a chained cabbage for a good first-half of the film.
“It was supposedly a normal swimsuit or one with a short skirt but after trying numerous outfits, they (director and producers) wanted it to look as repulsive as possible so they decided to go ahead with the bikini…. I was excited for the experience,” laughed the 24-year-old actor.
