Qn: What was the first thing that came to your mind when you heard that you’ll be the next host for Top Gear Korea Season 6?
Ryu Kyung Wook (RKW): I want to share unique and refreshing details to the general viewers about automobiles. Prior to this season, it was all about super cars and super performances, but I want to satisfy their curiosity on all-things cars-related.
Qn: Being a professional car racer yourself, between racing and hosting in front of a live studio audience, which is more daunting and why.
RKW: Hosting the show is more daunting because it’s in front of so many viewers and I’m not used to it. On the other hand, when it comes to racing, I have no fears or any daunting factors because I’ve been racing for 16 years and that (racing) has become my nature.
Qn: Top Gear Korea is in to its sixth season, what kind of personality do you think you bring to the show?
RKW: My personality in the show is something like a veteran car racer. I’m not very loud or good at other aspects of life, but I do know a lot about cars as I’ve repaired them and handled almost everything related cars.
Qn: What were some of the challenges during the filming of Top Gear Korea?
RKW: The biggest challenge for me was the 12-day mission where we (the hosts) had to go to jungle and deserted places where people don't usually venture to. Our personal belongings were also taken away, and relied solely on our own primitive ways. We could not wash or sleep properly, and had to fix cars when it broke down. The 12 days really pushed us to the limit.
Qn: What was the experience like, working with the production team and the other hosts?
RKW: I have learned a lot from them. Being a Top Gear Korea viewer myself, I felt that the hosts were smooth and very comfortable doing their thing. They make it look so easy! I learned that to host a show like Top Gear Korea, you have to be full of determination or you won’t be able to control it.
Qn: If you could invite any Korean celebrity or pop group to the show, who will it be and why.
RKW: If I could choose celebrity guests on the show, I would want to invite idol girl groups or any female celebrities.
Top Gear Korea Season 6 airs first and exclusively on KIX (StarHub Cable TV Channel 518 and SingTel mioTV Channel 309) every Tuesday at 9pm, starting from 3 February.
