A Favourable Ending After 15 Years.

In 2000, the 20-episode TVB drama, 'Return of the Cuckoo' became a hit with audiences. Viewers were talking about the 'It' onscreen couple: Man-Cho (Julian Cheung Chi-Lam) and Kwan-Ho (Charmaine Sheh). But when the drama ended, it wasn't the perfect fairytale ending that many had expected to be.
15 years on, the movie version of the same name will be out in cinemas this Thursday. Cheung, Sheh and Nancy Sit reprise their role in the movie, which takes place 15 years later. At the press conference in Singapore earlier this afternoon, the three leads shared about their filming process and their thoughts on the sequel.
"I was pretty excited when I received the news of a sequel, but I did consider if I should take it," said Sheh. "The drama was very well-received and it felt like a suitable ending to it. I was initially worried if the script would be as good as the series, but after hearing the story from the director, I teared up! That was when I decided to accept this movie."
Sit plays Man-Cho's mother, and was the person mastermind who separated the couple. "A lot of people hated me for it," exclaimed Sit.
She added: "That is why it was important for me to bring them back together, 15 years later! It's a way to compensate for what she did back then."
In the movie, Cheung and Sheh had to jump from the top of the Macau Tower, 233m above ground, but the challenging task was initially written for Sit instead.
"When the director told me I had to take the bungee jump, I looked at him and said 'You want me to jump? I'm so fat!', to which director Patrick Kong replied 'It's okay, you just have to take the first step and you'll keep falling.'," Sit exclaimed.
"I was stressed out and worried for a few weeks! I am very grateful for the two actors (Cheung and Sheh) to make this sacrifice for me. The suggestion of having them do the bungee jump instead was a great idea!"
Cheung, a self-proclaimed thrill seeker is no stranger to bungee jumps. His co-star, Sheh, on the other hand thought it was 'rather scary'.
Sheh recounted: "I do not have a fear of heights, but it's really scary from up there! I didn't think I'll be afraid to jump but at that moment when you're so high up, it's pretty scary! The first step was very scary."
Asked if she would take the leap again, Sheh quickly shook her head in disagreement. The mischievous Cheung 'threatened' and asked if she would do it if the movie hit the 1 million mark.
He joked: "If it's 1 million. You shall do the bungee jump again; if it's 2 million, I'll go back to Macau with you to do it; and if it's 3 million, all three of us (including Sit) will do the jump!"
