Seo Kang Jun’s 180-degree Change for ‘Cheese In The Trap’!

By Flora  /  22 Feb 2016 (Monday)

In the currently popular Korean drama ‘Cheese In The Trap’, 22-year-old Seo Kang Jun plays Baek In Ho, a wild and rebellious teenager who fights for the affection of Hong Seol, the female lead played by Kim Go Eun.

In real life, Seo is actually a very gentle and cheerful person, a far cry from his boisterous character in the drama series. At the press conference of his promotional tour in Singapore last Friday, Seo admitted that he was ‘apprehensive at the beginning’.

“My character and I are very different. Before I started shooting (the drama), I was very apprehensive because the character is so different from my personality in real life. I am actually an introvert while Baek In Ho is wild and dramatic…. but when I was filming it, I felt comfortable (playing the character).”

The drama, based on the popular webtoon (webcomics) of the same name, also stars other well-known actors like Park Hae Jin, Kim Go Eun and Lee Sung Kyung.

“The webtoon has a huge following in Korea, so that comes with a high expectation to do well,” he shared at the press conference.

He added: “There are many fans who were worried when they knew that I was going to play Baek In Ho. I must admit that I was concerned and felt a little pressured at first, but I had a goal to achieve and to break that image of myself, so I studied the character consulted my director many times. I really put in a lot of time and effort for it.”

His character is a piano prodigy, and one would assume that Seo will be fitting for the role for he had learned to play the piano for seven years during his teenage years. “I don’t think I am a good pianist, but there is one scene where Baek plays the piano with Hong Seol, and that’s me playing it.”

In terms of playing other roles in the future, Seo has not limit himself to anything at the moment, but feels that a role with him wearing the school uniform will be ideal. “I would like to try a lot of different roles because I feel that I am still young. A lot of people suggested vampire roles because of my fair skin, but I personally would like to play roles that allow me to wear a school uniform.

And if you’re wondering if this Korean cutie likes cheese, he unabashedly said: “I love cheese; like pizza cheese (we’re assuming it’s mozzarella) and convenience store cheese… cheese goes well with beer!”

Cheese in the Trap is currently airing on VV Drama (StarHub TV Channel 855) every Sunday at 10pm!
